Paradise Ponies, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, intends to construct and operate a unique Hawai’i-themed carousel along the Volcano Heritage Corridor on Hawai’i, The Big Island. The Carousel of Aloha Pavilion & Park, containing the Carousel of Aloha, will feature hand-carved menagerie figures, seating benches, rounding boards, scenic panels, and other carousel amenities carved and painted by volunteer artisans. Artists of all mediums are requested to help with this unique, statewide project. Open to Hawai’i residents, 18 years and older, amateur as well as professional artists are welcome. Wood carvers, cabinet-makers and all artists working with wood are highly desired. Painters and mural artists are also requested.

Intensive, skill-building workshops will be made available to all island craftspeople interested in learning the fine art of carousel figure carving. After each class ends, the visiting carvers return home to complete the figures representing their island. A project team and leader will be chosen for each county to deliver the completed figures to the carousel destination. At this time both laymen and project lead positions are available. If you feel you have the experience and ability to be a project leader, please make this known on the eligibility form.

Currently, Paradise Ponies, Inc. is soliciting all artists on a volunteer basis. Artists will not receive compensation for artwork created for this project. However, the work chosen for inclusion on the carousel will be a lasting legacy to promote your work and skills for years to come!
